Giving Back To The Community

The Adopt A Highway program is a tax-deductible opportunity for proud New Yorkers to give back to their community by ensuring clean and beautiful roadways in the New York City area.

The Sanjay Anand Charitable Foundation proudly participated in the “Adopt-a-Highway” program from 1996 to 2022. This program allows organizations and individuals to take responsibility for keeping a stretch of highway litter-free.

The Sanjay Anand Charitable Foundation (SACF) adopted one mile of the highway on the West Shore Expressway in Staten Island, New York. This one-mile stretch of the expressway was adopted by Sunil and Anu Anand in loving memory of their son Sanjay Anand. As it was on this expressway that they lost their son.

By adopting the section of the highway, the Sanjay Anand Charitable Foundation showed its commitment to keeping the roads clean and safe for all. A team of volunteers regularly cleaned and maintained the adopted stretch of highway, ensuring that it was free from litter and debris.

The Adopt-a-Highway program not only helps to keep roads clean but also helps to beautify the surrounding area. A clean highway is not only good for the environment but also enhances the aesthetic appeal of the area.

The inspiration behind the foundation

Born on the 8th of August 1977, Sanjay Anand was abruptly taken from us on the 10th of May 1995 in a car crash on the West Shore Expressway of Staten Island, New York. We will mark the 28th anniversary of his untimely demise on the 10th of May 2023.

Sanjay was a remarkable young man who left a lasting impact on those who knew him. He was only seventeen when he was taken from us – a teenager of great generosity and compassion, always willing to help those in need. Sanjay left behind a legacy that continues to inspire people to this day.
